What to Consider / Key Differences
Only the Business and Commerce plans allow installing third-party plugins and uploading custom themes. Lower plans are more restricted in design and functionality.
Custom domain name is free for one year on paid plans; with the Free plan you’re stuck with a WordPress.com subdomain.
Ad removal: only paid plans remove the built-in WordPress.com ads.
Support level increases with tier. For example, Free plan gets community forums; higher plans get email + live chat + priority support.
